This design, donated to the monastery by a friend, is an iconographic drawing of St. Michael, the leader of the Hosts of Heaven.
St. Michael has been venerated by Christians from the earliest days of the Church, carrying on the earlier veneration by Jews. He has long been associated with the mysterious "Commander of the army of the Lord," mentioned in Joshua (5:13-15), and is mentioned by name in the book of Revelation (12:7-9). Many parishes and monasteries are under his powerful patronage, and the Church honors him especially on November 8th, his feast day, and the feast of all the Powers of Heaven.
The back of this design has this saying: "St. Michael the Archangel, first in boldness among the heavenly ones: we who are in danger, need and temptations cry out to you: Save us by your intercessions."
